Volunteering for development

I am Eric Mbotiji 22 from Cameroon. I am one of the UNICEF youth Ambassadors for Cameroon and a currently volunteer with the Common Wealth Youth Association of Cameroon. Through volunteering, I discovered my talents, my purpose and a better way of living my life.

When i finished high school in 2009, I could not continue to the university level because of limited resources. Instead of sitting in the house, I decided to do voluntary services with a non profit organization, in order to occupy myself. Little did I know that I was entering into a whole school.

I attended lots of workshops, seminars and conferences which widened my scope of thinking and inspired me to be creative and active in my community. Due to voluntary services, I had the opportunity to gain skills in broadcasting, script writing, facilitating and public speaking. Today I am proud to be called a volunteer because of the impact I have created and the inspiration I have given to many young people as a result of volunteering. I will conclude by saying that volunteering is a very rich way of extending love to the community in a special way.
